The Highs And The Lows

I used to get a high when I was a CIT at camp as a teenager,

And I adjusted very well to the new normal for the five days.

I cherished the memories then, and I still do now.

It told me a lot about myself.

 

People get high on vacation, 

In new and exciting experiences,

Whether it be a work event or children's camp,

A temporary trip or moving.

The thing is, the high never lasts. 

It has happened at concerts and fairs,

And anything that makes people excited.

But the real person is in the day in and day out.

Poetry in Transition

When my sister's in-laws were here over Christmas,

Her sister-in-law casually mentioned that she had published a book.

We were talking about Children's books, so I asked if it was that.

She said no, it's a poetry book.

I found it on Amazon. 

She's a pretty open person as it is,

But no one can learn another's depth in a week.

Her work is completely honest and refreshingly insightful.

If you get a chance, I recommend reading her book.
